Favorite Find Friday – Crackers

by

I found these by chance at Walmart and I was delighted, not only at the taste but the price too…$1.48 for 3 ounce bag.  They are very crisp, light and full of flavor, a little spicy.  They also had plain sea salt crackers, I haven’t tried them yet.

I found them on the aisle with the regular crackers.  Check out your own grocery and see if they have them.

I
had my eye on this treat for a while and finally grabbed a box.  They
are definitely a treat $4.99 for a box of three.  It was well worth it.
The were delicious.  The dark chocolate on the outside was crisp with a
very deep dark flavor and the caramel ice cream was divine, so smooth
and creamy.  These bars are Kosher, Vegetarian, Gluten Free, HFCS Free
and Hormone Free!

Favorite Find Friday Gluten Free – Chips (Tortilla-flavored)

by

Late July Organic Mild Green Mojo Multigrain Snack Chips

I purchased these for my husband and kids.  I’m not big on spicy stuff.  I am big on non GMO and no additives and this product is big on both!  They were a bit more than I usually spend for snacks though so it will be a treat we enjoy occasionally.  It was $7 for a 24 oz bag at Costco.

Favorite Find Friday – Gluten Free Chicken Nuggets

by

When my friend, Kelly, told me she had found these at her Costco I was really hoping they had them at my local Costco and I was THRILLED when I found them there.  They are good.  I think they could use a bit more flavor but the texture is good and I cooked them in the toaster oven and they were a little crispy.  It’s not often you can find good, healthy (er) GF fast food.  This is definitely one I will try and keep a bag in the freezer for a quick go to when I need it.

Made from 100% all natural ingredients, our products are allergen-free, produced without the use of artificial ingredients, hormones or preservatives, and are minimally processed. Our Gluten-Free Chicken Nuggets are breaded with a savory blend of rice and corn flour and are certified GF by GFCO.

Favorite Find Friday – Snacks (Muffins)

by

I am always on the look out for easy to grab and go snacks.  I do not like to get caught out without the ability to eat something if necessary or worse eat something that may or may not be safe.  So, when I saw these muffins in the clearance section (frozen) and Kroger I grabbed a few packs.  I got them on clearance for $1.  Regular price, I’m assuming, is around $2.  Which is a little pricey, but if you have to choose between something you know is safe to eat, not eating or worse, eating something that’s questionable.  I think that $2 is worth it.

These are sold in the frozen section at my Kroger.  I have tried the zucchini and the chocolate chip.  They are both good.  Another benefit for those of us with food allergies is that they are not only gluten free, they are nut free, soy free and dairy free also!

I would definitely give them a try if you can find them in your area.

Favorite Find Friday – Marinades and Seasonings

by

My friend recently told me that Badia Mojo Marinade is certified GF.  I was excited.  I saw the Badia section and they have a ton of certified GF items.  I was a little excited and bought several things. Some stores I’ve been to (Publix, Walmart (sometimes) have a special section that is all Badia brand items.

My friend, Kelly, made some chicken using the Fajita seasoning, it’s amazing!

I haven’t used the Mojo yet, but I will.  I know it will be amazing on chicken, it would probably be great with shrimp too.

The Chipotle Sauce I used this already in place of chipotle in adobo sauce which I use in a couple of recipes regularly.

The pumpkin seeds I used to make pumpkin seed butter.  I can’t tolerate too many nuts at all….I’m allergic to almonds, and walnuts and pecans are starting to bother me as well and peanuts, not a nut, I know, but still thought of that way.  It’s really hard to make a lot of recipes like no-bake cookies and  granola bars.  When I found this pin on pinterest I knew I would definitely need to give this a try, so when I found these certified GF pumpkin seeds I was ecstatic.  I did make it by the way and it turned out fabulous.

Check your local grocery for these items and more!

Favorite Find Friday – Snacks (Cookies)

by

Normally I make my own cookies from scratch.  I just usually like it better that way.  But, every once in a while I just want to eat a cookie and not have to make it.  I grabbed these the other day, after carefully checking the ingredients,  because Pamela’s is notorious for using almond flour.  So, if you have any nut allergies, I’m sure you already check for that.

Funny how things change after you go GF.  Your tastes, your memories of how things tasted.  Things that you didn’t even necessarily like kind of become this fond memory.  Like these cookies…..they remind me of a Chip’s Ahoy cookie, the original one, only mini.  I was never a huge fan of them before, but this is a good imitation of them, and very enjoyable.  I even used them on the S’more Bites, since I didn’t have any graham crackers or cookies.

They aren’t super cheap, which is another reason why I usually make my own cookies.  Any GF cookie that’s worth eating is not too cheap, unless you hit a sale or clearance.    I paid $3.69 for this 7 oz bag at Kroger.

Favorite Find Friday – Restaurant (Posana Cafe)

by

My favorite find for this Friday is Posana Cafe in Asheville, NC.  This is a completely, 100% gluten free restaurant, yes, that’s right 100% GF.  It was bliss!  Not worrying about cross-contamination, eating french fries and wanting one of everything on the menu.  The excitement is shared by all GF people.  The lady at the table next to us was overjoyed to be enjoying White Chocolate Chip Pancakes with Marscapone and Strawberries that was on special the day we were there.

This place is in downtown Asheville, it is a really nice place, we enjoyed brunch on the patio, the weather was amazing.  The service was great, our server was Leah, she was very knowledgeable, friendly and on the ball.  They offer dinner too with the brunch on Saturday and Sunday.  See the menu here.

I really did want to order one of everything, even the things I don’t normally eat.    But, when I saw french fries I ordered immediately.  They were divine, hot & crispy, with coarse salt and a side of homemade mayo (my request).

In my excitement I forgot to take pictures of our entrees, but don’t those fries look amazing?

I had the Southern Style Benedict.  The eggs were poached perfectly, the biscuit was very tasty, though I was expecting it to be a much lighter biscuit than it was.  I guess when they said “southern” style, I was think it would be much lighter and airier.  However, the flavor was really good, it was slightly sweet and had a bit of a nutty flavor though there was no nut flour in it. (Though many of their baked goods/pastries to contain nut flours so be sure to ask.)

Another entree we enjoyed was the BLFGTThis was  bacon, lettuce, fried green tomato on house focaccia with a side of  jalapeno aioli.  The foccacia was out of this world, it was a beautiful, golden brown on top and was so light and fluffy.

And last, but not least, was Fried Chicken.  This was a breaded and fried chicken breast on a bed of cheesy grits and topped with buttermilk gravy.  This was probably the best thing.  I personally don’t prefer grits, but I would order this with fries instead and would be in hog heaven.

We also sampled the Everything Bagel, which was probably the best bagel I’ve had in 3 1/2 years.  We got to go the Coffee Cake and Caramel Pecan Sticky Bun.  The flavors were great the next day, but I’m thinking these are best enjoyed fresh.

If you are in the Asheville area or even close, you should definitely check this out. They don’t “advertise” as a GF restaurant, but are widely known in the GF community and very allergy friendly and knowledgeable.  They don’t even have any peanut products in the place since it is such a severe allergen for many.

Favorite Find Friday – Snacks (Hummus)

by

I like hummus, it’s good, it’s healthy…..some are better than others (not all are GF).  I usually get Sabra – my favorite is the Roasted Pine Nut.

But, recently my friend, Alex, shared some hummus that was phenomenal.  This is a local company in Asheville, NC called Roots.  They make hummus in eight flavors and also offer salsa and dips.  I can only speak for the hummus, I tried three of the eight flavors (Roasted Garlic, Thai Coconut Curry and Black Bean) and my friends tried a fourth (Extra Hot Chipotle).  I’m not much for hot and spicy, though the Thai Coconut Curry is a tad spicy, it’s so tasty.

The bad news is this is a local company and it’s not available all across the country.  It is definitely worth a look to see if it’s near you.  Even if you’re not a big fan of hummus, this brand could definitely change your mind!  It did for my husband who doesn’t usually like hummus.  He was a big fan of the Thai coconut curry one.

Favorite Find Friday – Snacks (Ice Cream Cones)

by

I was so excited when over a year ago I saw an article in Living Without Magazine that Joy Cones were coming out with  gluten free sugar and cake cones.  Every time I went to the store I would scour the shelves looking for them.  I finally just a couple of months ago found them at Publix.  They were only $2.69 for a box of 12, you can imagine my excitement if you’ve ever bought GF cones before, this was roughly half the price I’ve paid before (a rare treat at that price).  I just found them at Kroger recently too, for $2.48.   I’m sure you will share in my excitement when you find them at your local grocery.  Enjoy your ice cream on a cone!!  If you need a good recipe for homemade ice cream you should give this Blueberry Cheesecake Ice Cream a try.
