Favorite Find Friday – Snacks (Freeze dried fruit)

by

I’m always looking for easy to grab and go snacks that are healthy and gluten free.  These fit the bill.  They’re not super cheap but when you need something that’s easy to take along so you’re sure you have something “safe” to eat, you don’t really care that they are a little costly.

I use them for trail mix too and that makes them go further.  I found both of these at Walmart.

Favorite Find Friday – Snacks (“Slim Jim”)

by

I was searching for something that was easy to grab and take along but
also had a bit of protein.  I ran down the snack aisle at Walmart and
found these.  They were about $3 for the pack which I thought was  great price.  It’s not something that I would eat regularly, but I think a great grab and go, keep in your purse for “emergency” food.  I don’t know if you know that original Slim Jims are not gluten free.  I loved Slim Jims when I was growing up.  These are a great alternative, with great flavor.

Favorite Find Friday – Crackers (Cheese)

by

Well, my latest favorite find was at Walmart.  How unexpected!  In the  small GF/Healthy section I mentioned last week when I shared my favorite pretzels

While getting pretzels, I see this box of cheese crackers and it’s Van’s, I was very surprised, I grabbed it and checked it out and was super stoked.  I brought them home and they are very good, cheesy, thin and very crisp.   They were $3 a box, which isn’t too bad for fancy crackers in general.  Even better, a couple days later I was at Earth Fare and they were on sale 2/$5 so I grabbed two more boxes.

Favorite Find Friday – Pretzels

by

I’ve kind of fallen off the Favorite Friday wagon…. I think I should
have paced myself.  Sometimes Friday comes so fast and then it’s past.
Ya know what I mean?

I thought I had shared this one but I looked back and didn’t see it.

Before GF pretzels were a great, easy, CHEAP snack.  Not so for gluten free people.  The best GF pretzels are by Glutino, I prefer the sticks as they are super crisp, but the twists are great too.  I used to buy Snyder’s Gluten Free Pretzels because they were cheaper and I could get them at Whole Foods when they were on sale for around $2/8oz bag. But, there is no Whole Foods near me and they’re not that cheap at Earth Fare ($3.79), the Glutino are usually about $6 for 8oz.  But now that Walmart carries them I can get a 16oz bag for $6.  LOVE this.  I hope your local Walmart carries them.  Two of the Walmarts here have a small GF/Healthy section.  At one it’s on the cereal aisle and the other has it on the sugar aisle.

Pretzels are great snacks on their own, but if you chunk up some cheese you can pierce the chunk with a pretzel stick, crush them and use them as a breading for chicken, dip them in chocolate. Whichever way you choose, enjoy!

Favorite Find Friday – Cookies

by

Cookies!

Another thing I miss since going GF is graham crackers.  Cinnamon ones, to be specific.  I was on the search for something to make s’mores with and found a winner with these Enjoy Life Vanilla Honey Graham Crunchy Cookies.

I used them to make s’mores.  I used them for crust.  Ate them just as a cookie.  I made them into ice cream sandwiches.  Yum!

I ended up ordering them from Amazon.com.  I had a hard time finding them locally.   The price on Amazon was a good one too.

Oh and by the way, you don’t need a fire to make s’mores!  Check out this post for quick and easy indoor s’mores.

Favorite Find Friday

by

I’m going to try and post something on Fridays – a Favorite Find.  Something that I’ve found that I really like – to eat, or something that make things easier for me.  Many of them maybe things that you’ve already seen or heard of and may be favorites of yours too!

My first Favorite Find is:

Lundberg Honey Nut Rice Cakes

The name is a bit deceptive as there are no nuts in the rice cakes.  But, one thing I love about these is that they are made with brown rice, but they hold together.  One of my peeves with the Lundberg’s Brown Rice Cakes is that they always crumble apart.  I hate that.

This is a great snack, for grab and go.   Smear with peanut butter or nut butter.  I haven’t done this yet, but it’d be good with chicken salad or with a little cranberry sauce and sliced turkey.
